The Evolution of Women in Business WA
Where We Came From
The idea to create a business women’s network originated when Sue looked for services for herself. She came upon the original Women In Business WA website advertised for sale – and purchased it. Sue intended to continue the original quest of the previous owner to connect other women in business and expanded that to an information exchange for all business women.
The result is an online community website and information exchange, presenting this resource in a way that other business women can find it simpler to better connect and better manage their businesses.
Today
From the creation of a simple directory of Women In Business WA in 2005, the number of subscribers has grown by almost 400%. An e-newsletter circulates twice a month and the website showcases women business owners making their mark on the fabric of WA.
Because the Women In Business WA readership was growing exponentially, late in 2007 it was time to brainstorm "what next". So many readers had asked how we can meet each other, so with their encouragement we planned social fellowship. A fun way to mix with like minded women, and extend your business network, in a positive and relaxed atmosphere. The first of many social events launched in August 2008.
A Netwalking group was formed in November 2008. On the second Saturday of each month the Netwalkers meet at the Burswood and walk the 7kms bridges loop, coffee is enjoyed after the walk at the Dome. The Netwalkers enjoy the casual atmosphere of networking and walking.
In July 2009 the WIBWA Coffee Club was launched at The Bodhi Tree in Mt Hawthorn. The Coffee Club is now a monthly event, held on the second Thursday of each month, that attracts a fantastic variety of business women who are all eager to network and share their contacts, motivations and inspirations.
The networking opportunities at our Coffee Club events are open to all business women, but Women in Business WA Members also receive the additional benefit of an individual 60 second spotlight where they can provide an overview of their business and special offers to all of the Coffee Club guests.
Women in Business WA is also pleased to host a bi-monthly Cocktail Party. The Cocktail Parties provide business women with the opportunity to network with passionate, successful business women like themselves in relaxed surroundings. There is a Guest Speaker at each event so that guests can learn from and be inspired by the successful business women of WA. The Cocktail Parties have proven to be a great success and are enjoyed by all that attend. Tickets numbers for these events are limited to ensure that there is quality networking opportunities available.
What Next
To compliment social events, we envisage an annual series of workshops to inspire, inform and educate our Women In Business WA network. The women entrepreneurs we have invited for the first series will be a blend of leadership styles - motivating, inspirational, educational and full of down to earth knowledge. This is your opportunity to hear from other inspiring women and share in their learning and successes.
